The Deal With Spoilers

"Oh god! I can't know that!"
- Malcolm Reynolds, Serenity

To officially kick off the expanded universe discussion forum here at the Hitchhiker's Guide to the 'Verse, and because I'm only about 100 pages into Bloodlines and don't want any nasty surprises before they're due to show up, I wanted to make a quick announcement about spoilers.

Because the Star Wars expanded universe is, well, ever-expanding, and new books, comics, short stories, and other material are constantly being released, it's important to be courteous to your fellow posters, who may not have had a chance to read new material immediately.

Basically, it is common courtesy to warn other posters if you are planning to discuss spoilers when you start a topic. For example, if you wish to start a topic in which the novel Bloodlines (and spoilers from the book) will be discussed, simply add the word "spoilers" in brackets in the topic title. So the title would look something like this:

Legacy of the Force: Bloodlines (spoilers)

Likewise, if you wish to start a topic and ensure that no one unexpectedly springs a spoiler upon you, simply put "no spoilers" in brackets, in order to warn other posters not to post spoilers from the book.

Obviously, it's not a brilliant idea to post a spoiler in the topic title itself. So instead of using "OMG [name of character X] dies in Bloodlines!" use something like "Character death in Bloodlines (spoilers)" instead.

In short:

Use common sense, don't be an idiot, and we should all get along fine.

PS: Any admins, if this announcement could be sticky-ed (can I use sticky as a verb?), that would be great! Thanks!

Yes, sticky can be used as a verb here, as well as stickieified, which I actually prefer, myself. I'll sticky this...and to all posters...disregard marv's signature in the above post.

BTW, good luck with the F/S mod job. Look on the index and see if you can see the suprise that's hidden there. It's under W&A.
